"Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold."
William Butler Yeats
As a painter and environmentalist, I see an uncomfortable beauty in shattered ecosystems. Intense color fields arise from industrial accidents and scarred landscapes. The colors spark surprise—they are lush, layered, and profound in their range and depth of values.
Aerial views of industrial accidents, extreme weather, and scarred landscapes form my reference imagery. This imagery ranges from dye factory spills, effluents from industrial farming, agricultural run-off to waterways, to abandoned parking lots and extreme weather events.
I want the viewer to be drawn into the surface of the canvas by color and movement, gradually coming to understand this uncomfortable beauty and its implications.
